Cane Corso, the Italian Mastiff - acrylic dog painting
"Ettore"
9" x 12"
Acrylic on canvas panel
Ettore is a
very black dog that belongs to my family in Italy. I hear stories about this
smart and friendly puppy all the time I call home, from what they tell me he’s
such a handful! My family always had German Shephards, and this is the first “different”
dog in the household, his breed is Cane Corso, an Italian tipe of Mastiff.
I
asked for some pictures of him and he’s so cute that I couldn’t resist painting
him. The fun part is that I did not use any black paint. I’m curious to hear
what my family thinks about this portrait, did I get the personality of a dog I
never met?
We do not see things as they are.
We
see them as we are.

Absolutely beautiful!! I love that you have used these gorgeous colours and he does look black! I think you should enter this for this weeks DPW challenge to paint your pet.
ReplyDeleteThank you Azra for your lively comment. I submitted it to the DPW challenge. :)
ReplyDeleteEttore, "Hector?" is a perfect dog and painting.
ReplyDeletecongratulazioni,Robie!
Yes, Hector is the perfect translation of Ettore. About the painting being perfect... that's a huge compliment.:) Thanks Sylviane!
ReplyDeletesooo cute!! not using black works so well! and the background really makes the blues and purples really jump off the canvas. adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliments Suzanne! You are very kind.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad you find the background choice successful. :)
If you're looking for a lazy dog that's happy to snooze the day away, then the Cane Corso Puppy is probably not the dog for you. Cane Corsos tend to be fairly active; at the very least, you'll need to take it for a daily walk or jog.
ReplyDeleteThis was exactly what I needed to read today. Very timely and helpful!
