I've Been Selected for the 2020 ArtPop Street Gallery Columbus - My Painting on a Billboard!

Image
Happy me in front of the ArtPop Street Gallery billboard featuring my painting "It'll Be Grand". Oh my, there are times when you hope for things, you want them very hard, and everything goes wrong. But there are other times when you think "that sounds interesting, I'll give it a try" and you get the the best results.  The first time I applied for the ArtPop Street Gallery Columbus, in 2019, I thought I had a strong piece, but did not get selected. It was a little disappointing. So, this year I applied again. Even if I had very low expectations, I tried to do it right. I chose a piece I really liked, I cropped it just right, and I made sure I followed all the technical requirements of the online submission.  Then I moved on and kind of forgot about it for several weeks. The Advantages of Submitting for a Juried Art Competition I think submitting for any juried competition is a win-win, especially when, like in this case, there is no submission fee. It takes a...

Image
I'm thrilled to announce that two of my paintings have been accepted into the Farms en Plein Air , the 2018 Ohio Plein Air Society Member Show at Springfield Museum of Art. It's such an honor to be included in that amazing group of talented artists! I'm looking forward to seeing the show and attending the reception on Dec 8th. Show Dates:  Dec. 8, 2018  – March 9, 2019 Springfield Museum of Art 107 Cliff Park Rd, Springfield, OH 45504 "Everal Barn" Oil on board 11"x14" I completed Everal Barn last spring in Westerville, OH. "I'll Be Bright with You" Oil on linen panel 9"x12" I did "I'll Be Bright With You" in September. I was lucky to be there on the last day the sunflowers were still in full beauty. I went back a second day to finish the painting and they were all drooping down and sad looking. Good thing I had them all blocked-in on the panel and I could keep going with the painting wi...

#12bis - I'll Be Bright With You, Oil Painting of Sunflowers at a Farm

Image
This is a better photo of my latest plein air painting, done at a local farm. The last post did not have the final painting, only work in progress shots. "I'll Be Bright With You" 9"x12" Oil on linen panel $250 I found this lovely view at the OSU farm, it’s very close to my house, yet I had never thought to paint there before, I wasn’t sure it was allowed, but they were super friendly and excited about the idea of an artist painting the farm.  I ended up going back a couple of times to finish the painting. The second day the sunflower heads were already drooping down, but I have the shapes already in place, so it was easy to keep going.

Thinking of You - Oil Painting of Sunlight Reflections on Water

Image
"Thinking of You" 8"x10" Oil on Board Available This painting puts me in a romantic mood. It makes me feel like I want to be there, but not alone. So I know that if my loved one was not with me, with a sight like this I would be thinking of him, hence the title "Thinking of You". I filmed the painting process for this with my phone and created a time lapse video. I am trying to get better with time lapsing myself painting, but this video turned out all right for a time lapse rookie. You can see it on my facebook page (and if you get there, make sure you like my page, then you'd really make me happy!) One question still persists in my mind: is this a sunset or a sunrise?  I really can't decide. Thanks for visiting!
